Carry on Luggage Size
The requirements and rules for carry-on luggage size are ever changing and varying. Therefore, it is very necessary for experienced and novice travelers to keep up with the latest changes. You can usually inquire directly with the respective airline that you are going to travel with. However, let me acquaint you with some of the basic carry on luggage size requirements.
The basic rule is that the size of the carry on luggage should never be more than 45 inches. The 45 inch limit is considering the total sum of the width, height and length. An ideal 45 inch carry on luggage size is 22 inches in breadth, 14 inches in height and 9 inches in width. However, if your bag is odd shaped it is okay if it is less than 45 inches in size. When you are purchasing a carry on bag be very careful as the bag is not always correctly marked. Some companies tend to calculate their luggage from the inside which means that the outside dimensions are so big that it surpasses the required limits. Even if you stuff a lot in your carry on bag it is sure to exceed the limit.
If your carry on bag is almost 45 inches you may not be able to slide it under the seat even if it is well within the limit. There is ample storage space under the middle seat than under the aisle or window seat but it is not necessarily the case always. You should, therefore, try and carry the smallest bag which is possible for you. The total number of bags you can carry varies with different airlines but you are allowed to carry one personal item along with a carry on bag. These personal items mostly include a camera, briefcase, laptop, umbrella, a coat or a book. Nowadays, the rules and restrictions regarding the luggage are getting tighter. Therefore, it is all the more convenient to carry a bag instead of a full set of luggage. It also saves time and is hassle free. You should, however, make it a point to stick to the carry on luggage size limit so that you do not face any problems at the airport. Earlier, one was allowed to travel with more than one carry on bag but with the increased security you can only travel with one carry on bag.
Make sure that your bag has wheels so that you do not have to wear yourself out by carrying it all through the airport as considering the size of some airports you will end up walking miles and in such cases it is really uncomfortable to carry a bag. A backpack with wheels is also a good option as your hands tend to be free because of it. You can also let your child carry or drag his own backpack so that your load is eased a bit. You can avail different discounts which are always offered on luggage at major luggage stores.
